4 teenage kidnap accomplices nabbed

Police have arrested four suspected teenage kidnap accomplices at Umukabia in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia state.
Speaking while parading the suspects yesterday, the commissioner of police, Edgar Tam Nanakumo, who said the teenages’ ages range between 14 and 16, adding that the suspects claimed to be motorcycle spare parts apprentices.
The suspects when interviewed, said they were arrested alongside their bosses.
According to the police boss, the teenagers were being used by kidnapers to monitor identified persons with kidnap value before they start to trail such victims.
Also paraded by the police was another suspected accomplice of kidnappers, Nwobilo Isaac, who is also said to be a native doctor and a native of Owerre Ngwa village in Obingwa local government area of the state.
Nwobilo, who argued that he is a prophet and not a native doctor, was arrested by police for harbouring a notorious kidnapper, Udoka Irondi alias “kabaka”.
The police boss also said that a combined team of anti-kidnapping unit of the police and the local vigilante group stormed the notorious Avo-Ntigha forest, where he said kidnap victims are kept, and rescued the kidnapped Imo state treasurer of the PDP.
He also said that one of the suspected kidnappers was hit by police bullet in the crossfire that ensued between the police and the suspected kidnap gang, adding that two AK 47 rifles were recovered.
Nanakumo, who said that one of the rifles had the Rivers state police command inscription, added that the suspect died on the way to hospital from the gun shot injuries sustained in the crossfire between the gang and the police during the rescue operation.
