Abia gov donates 700 TV sets to traditional rulers

The Governor of Abia state, Theodore Orji, has given out 700 television sets, generating sets, antennas, DVD and DSTV dishes to 700 traditional rulers in the state to enable them open a TV viewing centers in their communities.
Giving out the TV sets in Umuahia, the Governor who was represented by Emeka Igwe, the Coordinator of Dr Orji Uzor Kalu transport loan scheme, said that the Governor approved the free gifts to enable them know what is happening around them and beyond.
Igwe noted that the TV sets being given to them, “is to allow you people to open up the TV viewing centers in your communities, which would help not only to check youths restiveness but also help stop urban drift.”
He explained that all the TV sets and their accompanying gadgets are being given to them free of charge while urging them to open up the viewing centers so that their subjects would be able to watch what is happening around them.
The Coordinator maintained that the TV sets would enable all the traditional who live outside their domain, to remain at home so that people can watch TV programmes there, adding that it would also help them to check the influx of hoodlums in their area.
Igwe said that the no traditional ruler would be left without receiving any of the said items from the state government.
He said: “the Governor has directed that all traditional rulers in the state be given free TV sets and that none of them is to pay anything for all the items that would be given to them.”
He warned them that a monitoring team would be set up to go round to know those who have refused to set up the viewing centers with the mind to retrieve same without delay.
Igwe said: “All you are supposed do is to put fuel in the generators to power the TV sets and allow people from your communities to come in to watch TV programmes without any hindrance.”
Responding, on behalf of other traditional rulers, Eze Nwabiarije Enogwe, thanked the Governor for giving them the TV sets which he said, would help them in keeping the youths within the rural areas instead of rushing to the cities.
Eze Enogwe said that traditional rulers support the present administration even as he warned all those who are after the Governor’s life to steer clear as he is destined to rule till the end of his tenure.
