An open letter to Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero
Your Highness,
I HUMBLY write to show my highest regards and appreciation for your royal commitment and magnanimity to Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools in particular and also to the establishment and development of mosques in this state and all over the country. There is no doubt that, Your Highness’ profound intervention in these sectors has brought about unprecedented development in Islamic education especially among children and youths and even more significantly girls.
Your Highness, the entire population of your domain is proud of the situation and pray for sufficient and prosperous tenure for you to continue with the noble responsibility. Your Highness, it is in this regard that, I seek the royal indulgence and to humbly solicit the replication of the magnanimous intervention currently being enjoyed by Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools, for the conventional (secular) schools as well.
Your Highness, conventional schools and indeed the entire basic education system is in dire need of your intervention. Every aspect of the system; the structures and quality are acutely short. Unless something is done urgently, your innocent children are at great risk. They are exposed to alarming disadvantage against their counterparts in other parts of the country and the world. They are at the danger of being perpetually underdeveloped.
Your Highness, the inspiration to intimate the exalted Palace on this phenomenon is from the nostalgic recall of Your Highness visit to my primary school in 1966. We were the privileged class that Your Highness stayed for a whole lesson. That royal visit has been our life experience, none of us will ever forget.
More importantly, the aftermath of the royal visit recorded significant rejuvenation of both teaching and learning not only in our class or school in particular but in all the schools in the entire district.
That generation of ours owes great gratitude to His Highness for what we enjoyed, that affected our lives to date.
Your Highness magnanimous intervention is most sought for in the current circumstances. Basic education is at a crossroads. Soon there will be generational breakdown (God forbid). Basic education is the bridge to the subsequent levels and achievements in the development of the generations of your beloved children. Education is the backbone for the development of any people. Quality education is life.
We need to develop; we need to rightly stand among our equals anywhere in the world. Your Highness assistance and compassion in the basic education sector is humbly requested. We are absolutely certain that we all enjoy it. We have no doubt.
