ANPP crisis depeens in Niger

From SALIHU N. MUHAMMAD, Minna

Niger state All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) stakeholders have warned the former gubernatorial candidate, Barr David Umar, to stop parading himself as the party’s former leader in the state.

This warning came from the minority whip and chairman House service committee in the House of Assembly, Hon. (Mrs.) Afinike E. Dauda (ANPP) representing Gurara constituency, during a press conference at the House of Assembly, Minna, in reaction to the recent press conference called by David Umar to announce that he is the leader of the party while the chairman Barr Hussaini has suspended himself from the party.

According to her, Barr Hussaini Umar Garba is still the state chairman of the ANPP, duly recognized by the national secretariat and endorsed by the eight members in the House of Assembly, stressing that it is impossible to expel or suspend their chairman with other executive members of the party.

Hon. Afinikerecalled that Barr Hussaini was the party’s gubernatorial candidate but willingly vacated the seat for David Umar because he lost at the primary election without showing any religious sentiment to Mr. David.

She also appealed to Mr. David Umar to desist from using religion and tribal sentiments for propaganda because, according to her, all the people that gave him their mandate are Muslims as well as the party executive.

Furthermore, she emphasised that, the real executive members of the party under the leadership of Barr Hussaini Umar Garba are still in existence and 100 per cent supported, calling on Mr. David Umar to come down to his level so as to have peace and harmony in the party, as well as in the state at large.

She maintained that Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu will be the governor of Niger state up to 2011.
