Ahly beats rivals in Cairo derby
Angola striker Flavio scored twice as Ahly beat their Egyptian
premier league arch rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the 128th Cairo derby
on Saturday.
The African champions now have a seven-point lead at the top of
the table and complete another calendar year unbeaten in
domestic football.
Flavio headed Ahly into the lead in the 31st-minute and then
added a second three minutes later.
Zamalek hit back when Osama Hasan scored early in the second
half.
The win extends Ahly's extraordinary unbeaten record in Egyptian
domestic football, which stretches back to mid-2004.
The African champions move to 38 points at the top of the
league, Ismaili are second with 31 points, while Zamalek stay
third with 29 points having played one game more.
Despite the result, it was Zamalek who nearly took an early lead
when Amr Zaki had his 12th-minute penalty saved by Ahly
goalkeeper Essam Al Hadri.
