FG reviews contract for Gusau -
Sokoto road, says guber candidate
The contract for the rehabilitation of the Sokoto-Talata-Mafara-Gusau
road
has been reviewed upward by the federal government.
The former Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Works, Malam
Yahaya Abdulkarim, who disclosed this, said that the job
initially awarded at about N2.5 billion has now been raised to
about N4 billion.
Abdulkarim told newsmen in Sokoto on Saturday that the
contract was being handled by Mother Cat Construction firm,
adding, "the company will swing into action after the new year
break."
The former minister, who is currently the gubernatorial
candidate of the PDP in Zamfara, added that the company had
commenced the rehabilitation of portions of the road.
According to him, over N600 million was allocated forthe
Talata-Mafara-Gusau section of the road in the 2006 budget of
the federal government.
On agitation for the a dual carriage on Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua-Zaria
road, Abdulkarim said, "I will beg the federal government to do
it if I become the governor of Zamfara state."
Malam Abdulkarim also announced that, the contract for the
rehabilitation of the Zaria-Gusau road, had been re-awarded to
another company, after Tilley-Gyado failed.
