Bayero tasks citizens on peaceful coexistence

THE Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero has charged the people
of the state to eschew violence, and ensure the sustenance of
peace in the state.
Dr. Bayero who was delivering his Sallah message on Saturday at
Kofar Kwaru (Emir’s Palace), reiterated that Muslims should pray
for peace and progress of the state.

Muslims on relations with neighbours
GovERNOR Ahmad Makarfi of Kaduna state has enjoined Muslims in
the state to imbibe the lessons of Islam by living in peace with
their neighbours.
In his message to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Makarfi
advised the faithful to be submissive to the will of God by
being their brothers' keepers.
``If you love your neighbour as yourself, you will not commit
arson, murder and maim them during disagreements,'' he said.

‘Your
prayers vital to my successes,’ Obasanjo tells Muslim Ummah
President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday said the steadfast
prayers of Muslim Ummah were a major force behind his successes
in office.
Receiving a delegation of Owu Muslim community who payed him
Sallah homage at his Abeokuta residence, Obasanjo thanked them
for their prayers.
He said the prayers contributed significantly to peace and
stability in the country.
The president noted that were it not for the prayers of the
faithful, things would have gone bad for him and the country.

Benue budgets N438m for sports
The Benue government has set aside N438 million for sports
development in 2007,representing about 1.8 per cent of the
state's N47.7-billion estimates for the year.
Governor George Akume disclosed this last Friday in Makurdi
while presenting the state's 2007 appropriation bill to the
state House of Assembly.
He said N200 million of the amount was allocated to Lobi Stars
FC, while the purchase of sports equipment would gulp N70
million.
