democracy - APGA
APGA has said that the feud in the presidency feud is a serious
threat to the country’s budding democracy.
President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice-President Atiku Abubakar
have been engrossed in altercations surrounding alleged gross
abuse of their offices and corruption.
Reacting to the raging feud, the National Secretary of the APGA,
Dr Sani Shinkafi, described it as “a big threat to our democracy
and the stability of the country’’.
Shinkafi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) weekend that, the
crisis was also posing a serious threat to the conduct of the
2007 general elections.
“If the feud is not diversionary, I believe that it is a very
serious threat to the smooth conduct of the 2007 polls,’’ he
said.
He advised the parties involved in the crisis to follow due
process in their actions and counter actions before they
misfired themselves.
The scribe advised the president to respect the rule of law and
follow due process in removing the vice-president.
Shinkafi also called on the National Assembly, stakeholders and
the international community to intervene to save the country and
democracy.
On the 2007 polls, he said: “APGA has fielded highly credible
candidates at all levels for the election.’’
The scribe disclosed that the party has submitted its candidates
list to INEC and was prepared for the poll.
APGA is representing its 2003 presidential candidate, Dim
Odumegwu Ojukwu, as the party’s flag bearer for 2007.
