AS the 2007 general elections approach fast, Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has advised people of the state to elect whoever they think would protect their interest and bring development to the state.
Malam Shekarau gave the advice yesterday when he received the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero who paid him a traditional Sallah visit (Hawan Nassarawa) at the Government House.

Shekarau dissolves LG councils

Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has dissolved all the 41 elected local government councils in the state with effect from Sunday 31st of December, 2006, to conform with the provision of Section 18(3) of the state Local Government Law.
The other three local government councils under control of the caretaker committees namely, Kiru, Madobi and Kabo councils were also dissolved with immediate effect.
According to a special announcement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Kano state Governor, Alhaji Sule Ya’u Sule, the governor has in line with the provision of Section 22(6) of the

President Olusegun Obasanjo has cautioned Nigerians against choosing corrupt and inept leaders in the coming elections.
In a New Year message to Nigerians, the president said the emergence of such leaders would truncate the gains of his administration in the past eight years.
``I urge you not to allow the actualisation of our dream of a just, peaceful and prosperous nation to be truncated by the emergence of corrupt and inept leaders as successors of the administration.
