Kanu misses top CAF award
Eagles star Nwankwo Kanu has been overlooked for the 2006
Glo-CAF African Player award after the Confederation of African
Football (CAF) on Sunday announced the top three nominees for
the award following a vote by the coaches of member-national
associations.
Kanu, who has been in fine scoring form for English club
Portsmouth, and Mohammed Aboutrika of Egyptian giants Al Ahly
thus failed to make the short list after they were also named by
the CAF media and technical committees in a short list of five
players last month.
Drogba, Eto'o and Essien have all enjoyed outstanding years
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has released the top
three nominees for the 2006 African Player of the Year Award.
Chelsea's Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba and Ghana midfielder
Michael Essien both make the final three.
Three times winner and holder of the 2005 award Barcelona's
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o is the final candidate.
The African Player for 2006 will be known at an awards ceremony
scheduled to take place on March 1, 2007, in Accra , the capital
city of Ghana .
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o Fils won the 2005 awards which was
staged in Abuja, Nigeria.
Nominees for the other award categories will be announced in
