Politicians call for a clear position statement on AC merger
Some politicians in Abuja, on Tuesday urged the Action Congress (AC) to make a clear statement on the merger issue with other political parties.
Alhaji Aminu Maisanda, a member of ACD, told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) that many people were confused over the issue.
He said that recently, INEC registered AC as a party on its own and no categorical statement was made regarding the merger.
``We need to hear a categorical statement from the parties wanting to form the AC,'' Maisanda added.
He pointed out that since many people were confused on the situation, there was a need to clear their minds.
''We would like the parties to tell us the true position of things, are they going to merge or not,?'' he asked.
Another politician, Mr Chike Obiora, who did not say his political affiliation, also complained about the merger issue and the lack of specific information.
He said that he too was surprised that although the merger was made an issue, no party had told the public when it was going to happen.
It would be proper if the public was be enlightened on the issue so that they could prepare their minds, Obiora added.
``We are expecting the parties to merge so that they can create a formidable force to challenge the ruling party,'' he said.
Seven parties were said to be merging to form the AC and produce a unified front to contest the 2007 elections.
The parties were the
