9 PDP guber aspirants kick
against consensus candidate
Three weeks after the adoption of Admiral Murtala Nyako as
consensus PDP governorship candidate in Adamawa state , the nine
other aspirants have rejected the arrangement.
At a joint press briefing in Yola on Monday, the aspirants
argued that they were not neither contacted nor agreed on a
consensus candidate.
Malam Adamu Modibbo, who spoke on behalf of others, explained
that the party in Adamawa failed to conduct governorship
primaries without giving reasons.
The briefing which was attended by six of the aspirants and
three of their representatives, gave PDP Febraury. 13, ultimatum
within which to conduct the primaries.
The aspirants had earlier shunned a meeting called by national
secretariat of the party designed to prevail on them to work for
Nyako.
“So as far as we are concerned, PDP is yet to have a candidate
in Adamawa and we still have time to do that,’’ he said.
They said the adoption of Nyako was unconstitutional and
contradicted PDP’s electoral guidelines, but they pledged their
continued loyalty to the party.
Sen. Jonathan Zwingina who also addressed the press, said the
“purported disqualification of five aspirants was a ploy to pave
way for the unpopular consensus which will not be accepted’’.
The nine aspirants include Zwingina, Sen. Abubakar Girei, Malam
Adamu Modibbo, Alhaji Koiranga Jada, Alhaji Dahiru Bobo, Alhaji
Awwal Tukur, Chief Joel Madaki, Mr Pascal Bafyau and Big.-Gen.
Aliyu Kama (rtd).
The party had announced the disqualification of Zwingina, Girei,
Jada, Bobo and Tukur. |
