Board detects 8,156 fake military pensioners
The Military Pensions Board has identified 8,156 pensioners as fake following various verifications embarked upon since 2003.
The Minister of State for Defence, Chief Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, who made this known in Abuja, said that a database had been established for the genuine pensioners.
``The verification have so far led to the elimination of 8,156 fake, deceased and fraudulent pensioners from the payroll resulting in a monthly deduction of the board's wage bill by about N129 million,'' he said.
He said that the board's account were reconciled with all banks which led to the recovery of N323 million from the banks as excess charges.
Aguiyi-Ironsi said that the money had been remitted to the Ministry of Finance.
He said the payment of monthly pensions had stabilised and gratuities and death benefits were being paid as at when due.
Aguiyi-Ironsi said the federal government has also approved N75 billion through the National Pension Commission for the payment of pension arrears, which, he added, would include military pensioners.
