Firewood sale booms in Katsina
Firewood trade has become the in-thing in Katsina, thanks to the cold and hazy weather that accompany harmattan, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Investigations by NAN has shown that firewood prices have gone up in the last five days as cold and harmattan envelope the town.
According to the investigation, a bundle of firewood which hitherto sold for N50 last week, now go for between N80 and N100 in the metropolis.
Following the trend, truckloads of firewoods can now be seen at various spots in the town, while piles of the commodity now overcrowd markets including Yar'Kutungu, the central market and Kofar Marusa, just as road-side sellers make brisk businesses.
One of the truck owners, Alhaji Kabir told NAN that since the coming of serious cold and harmattan, he had been selling three truckloads of firewoods daily.
Similarly, a firewood seller at ‘Yar Kutungu, Malam Kane Ibrahim rejoiced that he now gets over N4,000 daily from thesale of firewoods since the commencement of the cold and harmattan condition.
As a result of the cold weather, many residents of the town addition to cooking their meals.
