KSFCB burnt 8,000 porno films in
2006
By NASIRU MUHAMMAD
THE executive secretary, Kano state Film Censorship Board,
Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad Kurawa, has said that the board has
burnt about 8,000 phonographic films last year.
Alhaji Kurawa made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with
the Business Triumph in his office.
He said in 2004, they burnt about 16,000 phonographic films,
while 6,700 others were burnt in 2005, stating that the sky will
be the limit for the board in flushing out such films from our
domain.
The executive secretary said the board confiscated the films in
various locations within the state such as Sabon Gari, Brigade,
Noman’sland, Post Office Road, Ibrahim Taiwo Road and some other
places.
He further explained that the exercise is on-going, stating that
they now have more than 3,000 of such films with its mobile
court and are waiting for government’s directive for them to be
burnt.
Alhaji Kurawa stated that the board does not limit its
activities to the municipality along, but will be state wide.
He said the board focus its attention mainly on the eight
metropolitan local governments where such films are
concentrated.
He linked the proliferation of such films due to the emergence
of many CD sellers in our midst and called on the sellers of
films to seek for permission from his office, saying his people
will soon be on the streets to apprehend anyone performing
business illegally.
He stated that to show government’s concern over the
proliferation of phonographic films, it recently burnt thousands
of them and expressed concern on how the federal government
issues licence to people that bring such films into the country
through the National Film and Video Censorship Board.
Meanwhile, the executive secretary has said that as time goes
on, the board will be conducting the exercise (the phonographic
film burning) often, rather than doing it once in a year.
He called on the people of Kano to stop patronizing the film
sellers.
In another development, the executive secretary, has received
the permanent secretary, Kano state City Television (CTV),
Alhaji Faruk Umar Usman, on a tour to the headquarters of the
board.
During the visit, the permanent secretary thanked both the
executives and the staff of the board for improving it and hoped
that the tempo would be maintained.
The sections the permanent secretary visited included film
editing section, recording studio among others.
