Pilgrims conclude Hajj with
symbolic stoning of ``Satan''
Sixty Five thousand Nigerian pilgrims were among the millions of
Muslim faithful who Monday completed this year's hajj in Saudi
Arabia with the symbolic stoning of ``Satan'.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who covered the
event, reports that the stoning which last year resulted in the
death of a number of pilgrims, ended peacefully in Munna, a town
near Mecca.
The four-day hajj programme was peaceful and without those
problems, usually associated with crowd control.
Some of the pilgrims interviewed told NAN that the new
structures and facilities put in place for this year's hajj must
have contributed to the ``very smooth pilgrimage''.
NAN also reports that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad
Abubakar, EFCC Chairman Nuhu Ribadu and the governors of Zamfara,
Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa and Bauchi States, were among prominent
Nigerians who performed this year's hajj.
