INEC registers Gowon Estate
residents on new year day
Hundreds of residents of Gowon Estate, Ipaja, in Alimosho Local
Government Area of Lagos state, on Monday cut short their New
Year celebrations to be registered as voters.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, the residents
were seen on queue, patiently waiting to be registered by INEC
officials.
The exercise which started at about 11.a.m, lasted until 6.30
p.m, because of the large turnout of residents.
Already in the mood of celebration, the residents reported at
the registration centre with their family members, who said the
new year holiday gave them the opportunity to exercise their
civic responsibility.
Mr Tunde Oshofadekan, one of those registered at the
centre, commended INEC officials for denying themselves the new
year celebrations to ensure that more Nigerians were registered
for the 2007 elections I appreciate what the INEC officials have
done, abandoning every pleasure particularly today. Honestly,
they are contributing their quota to the progress of the
country.
``What I like about these two officials is that they are very
friendly and patient in the manner they attend to people. They
are hard working,Oshofadekan said.
Mr Taiwo Kayode, described the new year day as ideal for the
registration.
The INEC officials Mr Seun Ojiwunni and Mrs Victoria Adegoke,
said they were happy to perform their job, stressing that, the
choice of the day was because of their past experience. |
