YEDEP on youths moraliy in society
By SALIHU N. MUHAMAMD

YOUTH Education and Development Project (YEDEP), Kano has advised parents and other stakeholders as well as security agencies to assist toward stopping cases of unwanted pregnancies and abandoned babies which is now becoming rampant in the society.
This advice was given by Hajiya Amina Muhammad, programme manager, YEDEP in a chart with Daily Triumph in her office.
Hajiya Amina noted with dismay that ‘’It is very unfortunate if one can go through some major streets in this areas one could see for himself how some female children are being misused by unscrupulous elements’’.
She enumerated some factors which result in such a situation which include poverty and lack of awareness on the part of parents who deny their children education.
Hajiya Amina however, urged the general public to join hands with NGOs who are working toward the development of youths in the state so as to address this bad attitude.
She also warned those who are in the habit, to desist from it because whatever one does to someone’s child it will equally be done to him one day.
The programme manager also expressed gratitude to the present administration of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau for empowering youth and appealed to philanthropists in the state to assist the government in this direction by creating more job opportunities and giving micro-credit to the youths so as to make them self-reliant.
Hajiya Amina revealed that arrangements are in the pipeline to conduct a sensitization and awareness campaign against abandoned babies, unwanted pregnancies, abortion and street hawking which will target the Ulamah, youths and parents with a view to eradicating the problem.
She emphasized that mothers should always monitor the movement of their female children.
Hajiya Amina then solicited for the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, parents, government agencies such as Hisbah and Shariah to put all hands on deck in order to develop the youths and prevent social vices in the society.
