ZEDA poised to checkmate Almajiri syndrome

Zaria Education Development Association (ZEDA) is making effort to checkmate the menace of Almajiri syndrome towards promote educational development in its domain and the country at large.
The national chairman of the Association, Dr. Abdul-alim Bello disclosed this yesterday at the press briefing to mark the 40th Annual General Meeting of ZEDA, saying that, their association is voluntary, non- governmental, non- political and community-based dedicated to the improvement of education.
Dr. Abdulaalim explained that ZEDA was initiated as a result of the consciousness of moral and social obligation to avert and combat the apparent and impending collapse of education in the area and the desire to salvage the society from socio- economic decay.
Commenting on the menace of Almajiri syndrome in the Northern region, the chairman said effort is on the top gear to handle the issue properly with a view to modernise the system, adding that ZEDA is to provide proper guidance and counselling as well financial support to curtail the menace.
He commended the Kaduna state government and UNICEF for their tremendous support and co-operation to ZEDA to achieve the desired goals.
Some of the areas that ZEDA has intervened include offering scholarship and bursary awards to indigent students, disabled and the brilliant, noting that ZEDA also provides infrastructur, equipping staff room and empowering of staff through additional training.
