In a statement sent to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by CNPP's National Publicity Secretary, Mr Osita Okechukwu, yesterday in Abuja, CNPP described Obasanjo's message as ``apt and timely''.
Okechukwu said the country needed such reassuring statements as the nation approached a crucial a general election.
He said the elections would usher in ``our collective hope, desire and expectation of the first ever successful transition from civilian-to-civilian administration''.
CNPP advised the government to ensure free, fair and credible elections, and warned INEC, the National Assembly and security agencies against trampling on the process.
The President would be acknowledged or be held responsible for the success or failure of the elections.
Meanwhile, ANPP's presidential candidate for the elections, General Muhammadu Buhari, has renewed his appeal to Nigerians to get registered for the elections.
Buhari's appeal was contained in a statement sent to NAN yesterday in Abuja which also urged people to elect credible and patriotic leaders.
