INEC registers 600,000 in Bauchi
.INEC in Bauchi state says it has so far registered some 600,000 persons out to the 2.1 million projected voter population in the state.
The commission's spokesman, Alhaji Muhammad Garba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi yesterday a that the commission has distributed 1,018 Direct Data Caputre Machines (DDC) to the 4,000 polling units in the state.
He said about 160 DDC machines were also set aside as a back up to the existing machines in the field, while 4,078 ad hoc staff were deployed to the registration centres.
INEC, he added, had made adequate arrangements to ensure that all eligible voters were registered before the Jan. 31 dateline.
At present registration process is moving at a slow pace, in spite of the large turn out of eligible voters.
Meanwhile, the state NOA Director, Alhaji Ahmed Makama, has commended INEC over the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Makama said that judging by the level of its preparedness, INEC would meet the voter registration target before the end of this month.
