PDP no longer leading party
-Maigatari
By SHEHU M. TAHIR
PEOPLE’S Democratic Party (PDP) is no longer seen as a leading
political party, Alhaji Wada Salisu Maigatari, veteran
politicians in Jigawa state has said.
Alhaji Maigatari who spoke to our reporter in Kano observed that
the party, which was known as peaceful, has now been rocked with
crisis.
He said even among the top 100 people who founded the party, one
could hardly name 10 who are still in it.
According to him, the confidence that was earlier reposed on the
party by Nigerians, that it would transform the country for the
better is no longer there.
Alhaji Maigatari said politicians like him had since the
inauguration of the party around 1998, prophesized that the
party would not be able to affect lives of Nigerian citizens
positively because of its shakky foundation.
He said it was not formed on the basis of equity, justice,
fairness and fair play.
The politician is of the belief that those who joined the party
initially, protected and pursued their selfish interest with
determination to first develop the country before themselves.
He said right from the foundation of the party, it had a bleak
future because, many of those who constituted it had breached
the contractual agreement earlier signed by all of them to put
the nation at heart before anything else.
‘’Anybody who had succeeded in such deceptive attitude must be
failed by God, the Almighty, because God himself does not
deceive anybody’’, he said, adding that it is only humanbeings
who deceive themselves.
On the current crisis in the PDP and Aso Rock, Alhaji Maigatari
linked the whole episode to what he called lack of fear of God,
which characterized the party since its formation.
With the crisis, he said, PDP is reaping the seed it sown since
its formation.
He recalled in 2003 that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) was
unanimously elected by Nigerians but the ruling party
manipulated the election, believing that Vice President Atiku
Abubakar and Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) ) had a hand
in the manipulation, and they are now reaping the reward.
He is however, of the opinion that Nigeria will continue to know
peace despite the speculation that the current political
imbroglio was intended to destabilize the country and abort the
transition to another civilian administration.
This is because, he said, Nigerians at both Churches and Mosques
are fervently offering prayers for the peace and stability of
the country. |
