Shun partisan politics, Emir Kabir tells traditional rulers
From MU’AWUYA B. IDRIS, Katsina

AS 2007 elections draw nearer, Emir of Katsina, Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Kabir Usman, has warned traditional rulers in his domain not to identify themselves with any political party or aspirant.
Alhaji Kabir gave the warning during the turbaning ceremony of the district head of Kankia, Alhaji Abdu Kaita and Galadiman Goma, Alhaji Garba Bello Tafashiya at his palace during the week.
The emir observed involvement of traditional rulers in partisan politics will destroy the image of the emirate and their personalities.
‘’As leaders of people, your position is very sensitive as such, you should not identify yourself with any political party or candidate,’’ he further warned.
Alhaji Kabir recalled that some traditional rulers were removed due to their involvement in politics.
His words: “”I urge you to treat all people equally irrespective of political differences.’’
Meanwhile, the emir has called on the newly-turbaned district heads to be God fearing and honest in the discharge of their duties, pointing out that their appointments followed the death of their fathers.
Responding, the district head of Kankia, Alhaji Abdu Kaita pledged to carry his people along in the discharge of his duties.
Also speaking, the chairman of Kankia local council, Alhaji Bashir Babba Kaita, commended Katsina Emirate Council for appointing Alhaji Abdu Kaita, describing the appointment as well deserved.
Alhaji Babba said his council will continue to assist traditional rulers to discharge their duties in view of the vital role they play in the society.
