Take drugs, face prosecution in court-- Adamu
DIRECTOR of sports, Dr. Amos Adamu has stated that any Nigerian athlete caught taking drugs would be made to face the full wrath of the law in the court of justice of the land.
Disclosing this to hotsportslive.com in Lagos on Thursday afternoon, Adamu argued that the only way that athletes can take the campaign of abstinence from drugs seriously was for them to face the court of law, as a means of preventing those who may have been taking it to stop the dubious act.
Adamu revealed further that there would not be any case of doping by any Nigerian athlete at the All Africa Games slated to hold in July this year in Algeria, pointing out that the medical team attached to the team embarks on random doping tests for the athletes who have been told to abide religiously to the schedule given to them by the doctors assigned to each team.
According to Adamu: “I would rather Nigeria not winning the All Africa Games than for our athletes to be caught taking drugs. No nation would like its name to be dragged in the mud and no matter the number of medals that a country wins at the All African Games, the prominence would be given to the drug cheats, with a few mischievous people insinuating that perhaps it was a deliberate act by the entire contingent."
