FG launches N1.4b water schemes in 3 states

The Chad Basin and Rural Development Authority (CBRDA), has embarked on water projects in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe to the tune of N1.4 billion
The Chairman of the Board of the CBRDA, Alhaji Mohammed Lamin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) today in Maiduguri that the projects were part of government’s water policy.
He said the schemes were part of the federal government policy of providing at least 80 per cent coverage of potable water supply and sanitation delivery by the end of the year.
He said 57 of the projects were core projects of the CBRDA, while 83 of them were aimed at attaining some targets of the Millennium Development Goals.
Muhammad said contracts for the supply of potable water to 63 communities through the construction of motorised boreholes, 47 tube and 213 wash boreholes for irrigation had been signed.
He said contracts had also been signed in respect of the repairs and rehabilitation of the Basin’s broken down machinery and equipment for improved efficiency.
The chairman explained that all the contracts went through the approvals of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligent Unit (BMPIU), as well as the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
He said the projects were aimed at service delivery and poverty eradication and urged the contractors to be sincere and committed.
He said all the projects were to be completed within the first quarter of the year.
