Eagles: cranes line up
matches
In a bid to prepare adequately for the decisive Nations Cup
qualifier against the Super Eagles on March 24th, Ugandan
football authorities, FUFA has requested for build-up matches
with six African countries.
Nigeriansportsonline.com gathered from Uganda’s leading tabloid,
‘The Vision’ that the federation publicist, Rogers Mulindwa
announced on Wednesday that they had dispatched requests to
African champions Egypt, South Africa, DR Congo, Algeria, Angola
and Zambia inviting them for friendly matches.
"Our first priority is a match against Egypt. But we can also
play any of the countries on February 7," Mulindwa said.
Mulindwa was optimistic of positive responses although FUFA had
not received word indicating whether or not the invited
countries would honour the invitations.
The federation has already directed Cranes coach Laszlo Csaba
who just returned from holiday in Germany, not to name U-23 team
players including Augustine Nsumba, Dan Wagaluka and Anthony
Bongole on the team.
The Cranes proposed date for the friendly coincides with the
Kobs' trip for an Olympic qualifier in South Africa
Nigeriansportsonline.com learned.
Nigeria currently top the Group 3 table of the 2008 Africa
Nations Cup qualifiers with 6 points while Ugandan is placed
second with 4 points as both teams battle for the sole ticket
while Niger and Lesotho have 1 and 0 points respectively.
