Emir charges politicians on tolerance
Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, he Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu, has charged politicians to imbibe the spirit of tolerance toward a peaceful transition.
Emir Adamu made the call when he received in audience a delegation of his subjects from Alkaleri local government area, who paid him Sallah homage at the weekend.
He advised politicians to shun politics of bitterness and bigotry, but that they should rather promote peace, unity and security in the state.
The emir, who decried the spate of political thuggery in the state, lamented the manner in which some self-seeking politicians encouraged gangsterism.
He emphasised the need for political leaders to use their positions to educate the people on the need to live in peace and harmony with one another, irrespective of their political differences.
“As elected representatives you are expected to work toward promoting peace, unity in the society and initiate programmes for the overall development of the state,” Adamu stressed.
Earlier, the chairman of the local government council, Alhaji Bello Arabi, had told the Emir that the council had executed various projects designed to improve the living condition of the people in the area.
He listed some of the people- oriented projects to include the electrification of towns and villages, roads, water, schools rehabilitation and the construction of clinics in the area.
Others, he added, were the creation of job opportunities to about 1,500 youths which, he maintained, was part of efforts geared toward crime prevention.
