INEC registers 1.8 million voters in Katsina
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has so far registered a total 1.8 million voters in Katsina state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Alhaji Abubakar Zaki, made this known yesterday in Katsina in an interview with the News agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the registration was progressing smoothly, as people were responding positively in the state except in Dan-Musa local government.
He said more than 1,200 Direct Data Capture machines (DDC) were being deployed for the voter registration across the state.
The commissioner noted that a marked increase of voters was recorded during the week in the two emirates of the state, following the appeals from the Emirs of Katsina and Daura.
On the poor response of people in Dan-Musa local government area, the commissioner said INEC had sought the intervention of Katsina government to reverse the situation.
Zaki repeated his call on the people of the state to obtain their voter's cards so that they did not disenfranchise themselves in the 2007 elections.
He thanked the traditional rulers, state and local governments, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), religious and community leaders for their continued support to the commission.
