CNPP urges NASS to impeach presidency
The CNPP has called on the National Assembly to impeach the presidency because of the lingering feud rocking the institution.
CNPP is an umbrella of opposition political parties seeking good governance and sustainable democracy in the country.
It made the appeal in a statement entitled ``Danger Signals From Presidency: Time Bomb Against Democracy'' made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the weekend in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Osita Okechukwu.
The conference alerted the country on the alleged ``dangerous slide of our fledging democracy to fascist dictatorship, characterized by time bomb and booby trap.''
It cited the conflicting statements from two principal officers of the presidency on the status of Mr Peter Obi as Anambra governor and the declaration of seat of the Vice President as vacant to buttress its claim.
The conference credited the two statements to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo and the denial of Chief Akin Osuntokun, honorary Political Adviser to the President.
``We have severally catalogued series of violation of the constitution, bothering on gross misconduct by President Olusegun Obasanjo.
``Ranging from gross contempt of the rule of law and disobedience to court orders to pervasive corruption,'' the statement said.
