Belgore swears in 3 justices...retires January 17

The outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore, yesterday in Abuja swore-in three new justices of the Supreme Court.
Belgore, who will be due for retirement on January 17, said that the entry of the new justices brought the court to its full complement of 17 justices as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution.
The newly sworn-in justices included Tanko Muhammad, Olayiwola Aderemi and Christopher Eneh.
Belgore, in his speech, said that the apex court attainment of its full complement of justices was imperative because of the political activities the country was billed to witness in the next few months.
The CJN welcomed the new justices to the fold and assured them that they would meet their “brethren” on the bench.
Belgore charged them to work harmoniously with their colleagues in treating cases justly and expeditiously to the satisfaction of litigants.
The ceremony was witnessed by the governor of Bauchi, Adamu Muazu, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Onaiyekan, Bishop Alaba Job and other senior members of the bar and bench.
