FHA sacks 275 workers
The management of the Federal Housing Authority has sacked 275 members of staff as part of the right-sizing policy of the federal government.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited the FHA headquarters in Asokoro, reports the General Manager Public Affairs, Mr. Fola Awolabi, as saying that “out of the number 155 are monetised staff while 120 are regular staff’’.
Awolabi said that those affected would be given their sack papers on Thursday and three months salary in lieu of notice.
“This exercise is not a punitive action it is normal and part of the right sizing exercise currently going on in all ministries and parastatal agencies,’’ he said.
According to him, to show that they are not removed as punishment, the management is going to organise a cocktail for them on that same Thursday.
The GM said that those sacked who were due for promotion would be promoted and their salaries back dated and paid them.
A NAN correspondent, who visited FHA headquarters located in Asokoro District, reports that there was confusion and anxiety as most of the workers only got to the office on Monday and heard that they had been sacked.
Some of the staff were seen outside in groups discussing in hushed tones what they had come back from the weekend to meet.
A staff, who did not want his name mentioned, told NAN that the news of the sack got to most of them late on Saturday by some of the affected members of staff.
“I am shocked the list was never pasted since the news broke late on Friday last week after most of us had gone home for the weekend.
“I didn’t sleep as I was waiting to come to the office to confirm whether my name was on the list,’’ he said.
