By ISA ABBA SA’ID

POLITICIANS in Kano state have again been enjoined to guard their utterances and political activities within the realms of the law so as to stem pre- and post-election violene in the state, especially in the forthcoming election.
Kano state police commissioner, Alhaji Muhammad Dikko Abubakar, made the call while briefing the state media executives on the roles expected of them in the current political dispensation.
The CP pointed out that some electronic media in the state were negligence of their role to edit political programmes they air, which at most time cause discomfort and create unnecessary tension within the state’s polity.
He lamented a situation whereby some politicians would go to the extent of accusing one-another on unconfirmed reports on some political programmes, resulting into creating more hatred amongst them and widening the security gap needed to promote a conducive political atmosphere.

Turning to politicians, the CP warned that his command would not tolerate thuggery or renting of misguided youths to create havoc during political rallies.

Alhaji MD Abubakar further explained that he told the politicians to intimate the police about the security agents they employ and their agencies for monitoring and confirmation so as to avoid any unforeseen circumstance.
He also disclosed that the political big wigs were warned against acts of indecency their supporters engage in at various political offices in the state, especially where some of party supporters commit unlawful activities ranging from smoking Indian hemp, acquisition of dangerous weapons and engaging in political violence to mention but a few.
He said over 2,000 hoodlums have been arrested and prosecuted for various nefarious acts in the state.
The state commissioner of police then called on the media executives to advise their reporters to abide by the ethics of journalism and always edit their reports by bearing in mind that the slightest error made could plunge the nation into chaos, adding that avoidance of reckless media contents is indispensable.
