Merged ministries round off
process
Federal ministries whose merger were announced late last year
are already rounding off the merging processes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that of Cooperation and
Integration in Africa have finalised the processes of rolling
into one.
“The two ministries are one and the same and we do not expect
any problems melting into one,’’ a top source at the foreign
affairs ministry told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The source, however, declined to react to the implications of
the merger on the jobs of the top echelon of the ministries
especially the ministers, permanent secretaries and the
directors.
It is feared that many in the directorate bracket might have to
give way as the merger might cost them their jobs.
The federal government in merging the ministries last year cited
the need to minimise cost and avoid the duplication of
functions.
With the merger, information and communication will become one,
just like aviation and transport as well as works and housing,
among others.
