Obasanjo reshuffles cabinet...Swears-in 6 new ministers

KABIRU YUSUF, Abuja
IN what appears to be the last reshufflent by his
administration, President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday sworn in
six new ministers, swapped others and even assigned three
ministers for a single ministry all in line with the
restructuring of ministries from 29 to 19 which was announced
last December 2006.
The president who announced his administration’s decision to
reduce the number of ministry also leave four old ministers with
their portfolios untouched even as the former minister of
Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir Ahmed El- Rufa’I got a
partner in running the affairs of the nation’s capital.

A Daidaita Sahu wants more
funds, legal backing

THE acting director-general of the Directorate for the Societal
Re-orientation (A Daidaita Sahu), Malam Bello Bashir Gwarzo, has
appealed to the Religious Affairs Committee of the Kano state
House of Assembly to advise the state government to increase its
budgetary allocation to the directorate in 2007.
Making the appeal in an interview with Daily Triumph shortly
after the appearing before the House Committee for 2007 Budget
Defence, the acting DG explained that against the last three
years, the budget allocation for 2007 has drastically reduced.

Breach
of Hajj contract: Virgin Nigeria slammed N65m fine

Virgin Nigeria, the fledgling national carrier, has been slammed
a $500, 000 (about N65million) fine for breaching the
contractual agreement it entered with the Nigerian government
for the 2006/2007 Hajj exercise.
The airline is one of the five carriers contracted by the
Presidential Committee on Hajj (PCH), to convey Nigerian
pilgrims to and from the Holyland.
Meridien Air has also been fined $100, 000 (about N13million)
for missing its slot for the airlift operation secured from the
Saudi aviation authorities.

Siasia invites 39 to U-23 camp
Coach of U-23 national team Samson Siasia has invited 39 players
to camp ahead preparations for the 9th All African Games soccer
qualifier against Equitorial Guinea at Abuja National stadium on
February 7, 2007 reports Nigeriansportonline.com.
Top on the list is former U-17 and Flying Eagles left wing back,
Joseph Eyimofe who returned to the country last December after a
successful heart surgery in India.
The rest are Ekene Emigo, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and Peter Okoye
from Enyimba.
