Commercial drivers advised to
shun dubious politicians
AS politicians brace up for this year’s general elections,
members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers have
been advised not to patronize political parties that parade
thugs and vandals during their campaigns and rallies.
The chairman of the Coca-Cola motor park branch of the union,
Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim Yankaba, who gave this advice in an
interview, said in the past, members of the union who hired out
their vehicles to political parties had such vehicles smashed or
damaged by thugs and vandals during rallied and campaigns.
Alhaji Yankaba, noted that whenever such vehicles were damaged,
no compensation was paid for their repairs, adding that members
should be cautions in dealing with politicians this time around.
Alhaji Yankaba, who was a former assistant state organizing
secretary of the union, also cautioned the members to avoid
reckless driving during and after elections, especially during
electioneering campaigns.
He also appealed to the members of the union to report to the
nearest law enforcement agents, those who use their vehicles to
conceal dangerous weapons and use them on election days.
Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim Yankaba also enjoined members of the union
to pray and assist in ensuring hitch-free elections.
