LEEMP executes N313m projects in Bauchi
A World Bank assisted programme, the Local Empowerment and Environmental Management Projects (LEEMP),'' has executed various developmental projects worth N313 million in 120 communities in Bauchi State.
LEEMP Co-coordinator in the state, Malam Nasir Shehu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that the projects were executed between January and December last year.
Shehu said about 10 communities were selected from each of the 12 benefiting local governments in the state.
He said each of the benefiting communities received $50,000 worth of developmental projects.
Shehu said Bauchi, Kirfi, Darazo, Warji Shira, Jama'are and Giade local governments benefited from projects financed by the International Development Association (IDA), which were supervised by the World Bank.
He added that another set of 50 communities drawn from Alkaleri, Misau, Ningi, Toro and Ganjuwa local governments also benefited from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) assisted projects.
The projects, he noted, were designed to promote the eco-system through the provision of alternative source of livelihood to communities living around such protected areas.
Shehu explained that the World Bank, through IDA, contributed more than N263 million, while the benefiting communities contributed more than N50 million as counter-part funding for the various projects in their locality.
The LEEMP co-coordinator listed some of the projects to include the construction of 47 schools, 48 clinics, 185 bore holes and four markets.
He said 43 drains designed to control erosion were constructed, while 98 oil milling machines were procured and distributed to various co-operatives as a way of empowering their members.
``We have also constructed feeder roads in 11 communities at N21 million,'' Shehu added.
He said LEEMP had concluded arrangements to engage more communities in its various projects this year.
