ABOUT N9.2 million has been realized at the launching of this
year’s Armed Forces emblem appeal fund in Kano state with the
highest donation coming from the 44 local governments of the
state.
Speaking at the occasion, the Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim
Shekarau, pointed out that, the task of assisting the ex-service
men and the families of those who lost their lives while
defending the humanity at the battle front depends on every
individual.
Malam Shekarau explained that people should not limit the
remembrance of the fallen heroes to mere celebration rather
should use the occasion to show appreciation for the ex-service
men’s sacrifice to the nation.
Governor Shekarau stated that while some of the legionnaries are
better off, majority of them are finding it difficult to
survive, explaining that they deserved sympathy from the
populace.
He therefore called on all and sundry to contribute toward
building a sustainable peace in the society, saying that the
means of sustaining the peace is perfecting our worship before
God.
The governor also enjoined people to shun bribery and
corruption, cultism and all other forms of social evils.
Malam Shekarau said that violence and rigging during election
must be avoided to allow people to elect leaders of their
choice.
The governor then announced the donation of N1 million by the
state government while directed all the 44 local governments to
donate N100,000 each. The governor also donated N100,000 on
behalf of himself and his family.

Mariya Dantata donating the highest amount of N2.5 million in
cash.

culture represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry,

legionnaires and the fallen heroes while in active service.
