Armed robbers attack Katsina returning pilgrims

SOME returnee pilgrims from Katsina state have run into a gang of armed robbers along Kano-Kankia-Katsina road.
One of the victims of the robbery syndicate who went to Kano to welcome the pilgrims from Bindawa, Malam Ibrahim Mai-Unguwa told the Daily Triumph that they were returning from Kano when the car in which they were traveling in ran out of fuel.
According to him, the occupants of the vehicles decided to go to Kankia to purchase fuel with one of the two cars, only to return and met armed robbers on the road.
The victim said a lorry was also stopped and the passengers of the cars and others in the lorry were asked to handover their money and handsets.
The robbers, who were armed with guns and sticks, he said, ransacked all the vehicles and confiscated monies including Saudi Riyals and vandalise before escaping into the bush.
While the robbers did not shoot or injure any of the victims, one person was beaten by the robbers because he has no money to give to them.
Malam Mai-Unguwa called on the government to deploy more security agents on the Katsina-Kano road.
He observed that the return of pilgrims has just begun and feared that the robbers may be terrorizing the returning pilgrims.
