Tse-tse fly threatens 37 African countries -- Prof. Tanko Zaria
From Mustapha Saye, Kaduna

About 37 African countries have been affected by Tse-tse fly that is posing a great threat to the development of their socio-economic activities, the director general of the Nigerian Institute for the Control of Trypanasomiasis and Onchocerciasis, Prof. Lamido Tanko Zaria has disclosed.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Triumph correspondent in Kaduna, Prof. Zaria said this observation was made at the last meeting of Pan African Tse-tse fly and Trypanosomiasis Eradication campaign, held in Lome, Togo.
He explained that some of these African countries’ socio-economic activities have been severely affected especially agriculture stressing that there is the need for the African governments to focus on it and come out with lasting solution.
According to him, countries in the East-African sub-region such as Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda are in such danger.
He appealed to the African Development Bank (ADB) not to relent in its effort towards the provision of soft loan to these countries with a view to tackling it, adding that ADB has a great role to play especially in the provision of adequate soft loan that will be enough to tackle the monster of Tse-tse fly in the African countries.
