BUK citedal of academic excellence, character training -Jega

THE vice chancellor, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Prof. Attahiru Mahmud Jega, has described the university as the best in academic and character training throughout the country.
Prof. Jega, who made this known in his message during 2006/2007 fresh students orientation programme, added that BUK has excelled in providing efficient and effective knowledge in various courses and therefore, reiterated the university’s commitment to the development of education at all cost.
The vice chancellor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Aminu Taura, urged the new intake to pay more attention to their studies, adding that the university authority will not give room to any student that is not ready to learn.
He stressed the importance of the orientation programme to acquaint the students with the activities and programmes of the university in order enable them know the rules and regulations of the university.
Prof. Jega then appealed to them to live up to expectation by setting enviable academic and moral records that will be key to success in their future endeavour.
In his lecture, the director, Academic Planning Unit (APU) of the university, Dr. Abdulrashid Garba, called on the new students to have self respect and avoid registration with unauthorized societies and associations, saying the approved societies and association are under control of the students affairs unit.
He then reiterated the university’s strict policy on the issue of dressing, adding that the university will not allow students to wear indecent dresses that violate culture and traditions as well as religion, adding that the university has introduced security measures on the dressing code.
Also speaking, the registrar of the university, Alhaji Farouk Muhammad ‘Yan Ganau said only 4,000 students out of the 16,000 that applied were successfully admitted in 2006/2007 academic year.
He then assured of the university’s readiness to continue to give solid education to its students, adding that BUK, which was established since 1960 under Ahmadu Bello College, was renamed after Abdullahi Bayero college and promoted to full pledged university as Bayero University, Kano in 1972.
