Hajj:
Sultan blasts state officials

State Hajj officials have
been accused of being dishonest and insincere in matters
affecting their pilgrims, the Amirul Hajj and Sultan of Sokoto,
Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has observed.
The Sultan also observed that due to incompetence of such
officials in handling Hajj affairs they should have no business
in the exercise.
He made the assertion during an interaction with stakeholders on
the review of home-bound airlift of pilgrims, saying that the
Hajj officials should always be frank, straight-forward and
interactive with their pilgrims if the persistent problems
experienced during Hajj operations could be adequately tackled.

others lay wreaths to honours fallen heroes

PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday led top government
officials in the annual wreaths laying in Remembrance of the
nation’s fallen heroes at the Memorial Arcade, Abuja as part of
this year’s commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The 2007 ceremony was flagged off by President Olusegun Obasanjo
and the Senate President, Chief Ken Nnemani, along with the
Speaker of the House of Representative, Alhaji Bello Masari,
members of the diplomatic corps and top military personnel who
grace the occaision.

KANO state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has laid a wreath
in honour of the Nigerian fallen heroes.
The event, which was held at Malam Kato Square, Kano has
signified the end of series of activities held in remembering
the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces at the civil war.
The governor, also inspected a parade mounted by the military.
Other activities lined up for the event included freeing of
white pigeons to signify peace and stability in Nigeria, while a
gun shot to the air by the parading officers added glamour to
the ceremony.

Vogts agrees to coach Nigeria
Former Germany and Scotland coach Berti Vogts has agreed to take
charge of the Super Eagles, the chairman of the Nigeria Football
Association (NFA), Sani Lulu, disclosed on Monday.
"Vogts has signed an agreement with the NFA to coach our
national team," Lulu disclosed from London.
"The actual contract signing ceremony will take place in Nigeria
before the end of this month."
Lulu said Vogts he was the best man for the job.
"We all found him to be very sincere and focussed. He is a
complete gentleman who believes in the future of Nigeria
football and he is willing to bring his experience to bear on
our football," he said.
