Ministry revives task force on
girl-child education
The ministry of women affairs, has revived the National Task
Force on the Girl- Child Education.
The director, child development in the ministry, Dr. Rosemary
Abdulahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja that
the task force was composed of a multi-sectorial committee.
She said that the committee would ensure the improvement of the
girl-child education and would be in charge of the
implementation and plans of the Girl-Child Education Programme.
The programme is one of the major focus of the department of
child development.
To enable effective programming on the girl child, the
department commissioned a survey to identify best practices in
selected zones for support and replication,'' she said.
To that effect, a stakeholders forum had been held to provide a
platform for everyone involved to jointly address the challenges
of girl child education in Nigeria, she said.
``A monitoring and evaluation tool for child development
activities both at federal and state level has been put in place
to ensure the implementation,'' she said.
Abdulahi said that following the completion of the survey on
best practices on the girl child, a zonal meeting was held for
the Northern zone, where the problem was more prevalent.
She noted that the director of child development for the
Northern states and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
The child development department of the ministry is responsible
for providing the enabling environment that will ensure the
maximum and holistic development of the Nigerian child.
The department is divided into three divisions for effective
service delivery.
They are protection and participation division, child social
services and orphan division and vulnerable children unit.
