Murder: Judge warns Fayose, others against playing politics
An Ado-Ekiti High Court has warned former governor. Ayo Fayose's counsel, aide Goke Olatunji and PDP chieftain Okondo to stop playing politics with the murder case involving them.
Justice Ayodeji Daramola gave the warning , saying they were fond of doing this whenever the case came up in his court.
Daramola said he saw no reason why the counsel were fond of celebrating the case, which he described as a serious matter.
He gave the warning during the arraignment of Olatunji and Okondo, both of whom were accused of involvement in the killing of Mr Tunde Omojola at Ifaki area of Ekiti State last year.
Others who were brought to the court along with the duo were Mr Taddeus Aina, Mr Samuel Dada and Mr Niyi Ojo, while Fayose's name was merely mentioned on the charge sheet.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and for actually killing Omojola at Ifaki-Ekiti on May 28, 2005.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mr Owoseni Ajayi led two other counsel for Olatunji, Okondo and Aina on behalf of Mr Alex Nzinyon and Malam Yusuf Ali, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
Mr Mackson Oruma represented Dada and Ojo. Earlier, the state Director of Public Prosecution, Mr Lawrence Ojo, had told the court that the justice ministry had written the police on its intention to take over the case.
As a result, Ojo said the ministry needed more time to study and react to the application.
On bail application, the judge adjourned hearing to early February.
