Obasanjo, others lay wreaths to
honours fallen heroes

PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday led top government
officials in the annual wreaths laying in Remembrance of the
nation’s fallen heroes at the Memorial Arcade, Abuja as part of
this year’s commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The 2007 ceremony was flagged off by President Olusegun Obasanjo
and the Senate President, Chief Ken Nnemani, along with the
Speaker of the House of Representative, Alhaji Bello Masari,
members of the diplomatic corps and top military personnel who
grace the occaision.
The ceremony, which is celebrated on every 15 of January 15th in
honour of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who lost their
lives during service across the world, included the traditional
21 gun salutes that added colour to the occasion.
A part from the president and other government’s officials who
laid the wreaths, others were the Chief of Defence Staff,
General Martin Luther Agwai, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General
Andrew Owoye Azazi, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ganiyu
Adekeye, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Paul Dike, and the
Inspector General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindaro.
Others were the Minister of Defence, Chief Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi,
Minister of State for Defence, Mr Mike Onolememem, and Mrs.
Aisha Lemu, the widow of late Major-General Salihu Musa Lemu who
died last year in the Donnier Aircraft that crashed on the high
mountains in Benue state.
The National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Group Captain
Charles Nnaboihi, who was the last to lay the wreath at the
ceremony, commended the federal
