Ribadu hails Buhari’s record
THE chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),
Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has given a pass mark to the leadership of
the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate,
General Muhammadu Buhari for his past track record when he was
the Head of State and C-in-C of the Armed Forces of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.
Similarly, he commended the role played by the late General
Tunde Idiagbon when he was General Buhari’s 2ic.
The EFCC chairman made the disclosure in an interview with the
Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA), yesterday and
monitored by our Political Desk shortly after delivering a paper
in honor of Chief Gani Fawahenmi.
Malam Ribadu disclosed further that if leaders should behave
like Chief Femi Falana, Chief Gani Fawahenmi, General Muhammadu
Buhari and the late General Tunde Idiagbon, Nigeria would have
been a better country.
He accused the various military regimes (excluding General
Buhari’s and General Murtala’s) as the initiators of corruption
in this country, adding that beside being untouchables, they
also personalized the country’s oil riches as well as squandered
government’s money without a second thought.
Asked if his exoneration of General Buhari would not be seen as
supporting a particular presidential candidate or his
involvement into the country’s political arena especially in
these crucial times, Malam Ribadu stated that each and every
Nigerian was fully aware of the good governance of General
Buhari during his tenure in office, adding that General Buhari
also maintained the good leadership trait of the late General
Murtala Muhammad.
He said though the two leaders were members of the Armed Forces
yet they exhibited exemplary leaderships.
Turning to the achievements so far recorded by his commission,
Malam Ribadu thanked God for the comission’s successes in
tackling the menace of 419ners, prosecution of corrupt officials
in banks and government as well as the consfication of over $5bn
from them, pointing out further that about N200bn had been
returned to various banks through his commission’s efforts on
eradicating corruption in such institutions.
