2007: Commandant tasks armed forces

THE Commandant 303 Flying Training School Kano Air Commodore Adedeji Rasaq Okonlawan, has called on the Nigerian armed forces to show good exemplary attitude in the responsibility and duty as a Nigerian citizens to ensure that the 2007 general elections are successfully conducted.
He made this known in his address at the opening of the 3 Brigade Special Quiz Competition on Code of Conduct for the Nigerian Army personnel held at 5 Battalion, Janguza.
He described the April election as general concern to Nigerians and therefore commended the Nigerian Army for organizing the sensitization programme.
Air Commodore Okanlawan, who is the special guest at the occasion, stressed that the importance attached to the code of conduct for the general election by the Nigerian Armed Forces indicated its support for democracy in the country.
He then commended the 3 Brigade Commandant for his effort to educate his officers on the need to contribute their quota toward successful election.
Also speaking, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Humphery Osagine described the quiz competition among the Nigerian Army officers as the great achievement to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ).
The REC added that the competition has indeed proved that the message of political awareness organized by INEC during the last political stakeholders forum, is well assimilated by the military and the entire society.
He assured the military of INEC’s readiness to conduct a free, fair and a credible election come April.
In his response, the Commander of the Brigade assured INEC and the entire society of the armed forces readiness to be exemplary in all areas.
He further thanked the Nigeria police the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Custom and the Nigerian Immigration Service for being partners in progress and hoped for all to put Nigeria first n order to erect a better society for all.
At the end, 241 Rescue Battalion, Nigeria Army emerged the overall winner of the competition with the Brigade Garrison coming last, while the 5 Battalion Janguza and 35 Battalion took 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In his closing remark, the Commander urged all soldiers and officers to be good citizens and show good example for all to emulate.
