Bauchi Speaker urges FG to
implement CONIISS

THE Speaker of Bauchi state House of Assembly (BAHA), Hon. Tanko
Ibrahim Jalan has urged the federal government to consider the
immediate implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary
Institution Salary Structure (CONIISS), because of its important
effect on the medical and dental profession.
Hon. Jalan told Daily Triumph in Bauchi that the new CONIISS
circular which reduced the take home pay medical doctors and
university lecturers, is capable of plunging the entire nation
into another medical and educational crises.
The lawmaker stressed that the monumental achievements recorded
by the Obasanjo administration in the health and educational
sectors, may be eroded especially at this period when the nation
is on another threshold of history, advising the federal
government against the looming crises in the two most important
sectors of the economy.
‘’No member of the ruling political party (PDP) will definitely
allow the government to be subjected to blackmail by any
association through strike actions or neglect of the two vital
sectors of the economy for whatever reason,’ he opined
According to him, already the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA)
has given the federal government a 21-day ultimatum with effect
from February 12,2007 to withdraw the CONIISS circular or face
an industrial action. He urged the federal government to create
at least a medical service commission that will effectively
conceptualize and implement all medical service as well as
reduce problems associated with medical and health practice in
the country.
Hon.Jalan reconsider further revealed that as a law maker, he
will be moon any attempt to infringe on the rights and
privileges of any Nigerian irrespective of his professional
calling.
He however, urged the NMA to explore other conventional means of
seeking redness for their predicament rather than strike, noting
that ‘’their will create an adverse effect on the generality
especially the poor masses that cannot afford to pay for private
medical services. |
