THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may have
put paid its earlier stand to disqualify Vice President Atiku
Abubakar from contesting as presidential candidate of the AC
when his name was conspicuously omitted from the list of
presidential candidates it announced yesterday.
This is contrary to an Abuja High Court ruling that only a
competent court of law could disqualify a candidate in
accordance with the constitution.

ANPP admonishes members against violence

IN continuation with its political campaign in Kano state, the
All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has enjoined its party members
and faithful to desist from violent politicking.
The chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Sani Hashim
Hotoro made the plea in Gaya town, headquarters of Gaya local
government during the launching of the party’s Kano South
Senatorial campaign yesterday.
Alhaji Hotoro who described the state governor, Malam Ibrahim
Shekarau who is also the ANPP governorship candidate as a
qualitative material, said the governor has dedicated his time
and energy to develop the state.

Sultan advises INEC over right to
vote
From MUSTAPHA SAYE, Kaduna.
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been
cautioned against disallowing eligible candidates to contest
election for the electorate to have choice of voting credible
ones among them, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad
Abubakar has said.
Speaking at Arewa House, Kaduna during a summit for traditional
rulers, organised by the INEC yesterday, the Sultan said that
the commission has to ensure that adequate predations for the
successful conduct of election were made.

SHELL Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited has
expressed satisfaction over the way and manner Kano state
government’s efforts have been helping sports development in the
country.
The company’s external affairs director, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke
stated this at the presentation of a cheque to Government
College Kano, winners of this year’s Shell football competition
held at ETF Community Education Resource centre, Gandun Albasa,
Kano yesterday.
