No plans to leave Niger Delta -- Shell
The Shell Petroleum Development Company says it has no plans to leave the Niger Delta in spite of incessant attacks on its facilities and personnel by militants.
The new Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mr Dale Rollins, told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that contrary to speculations, ''Shell is here to stay''.
He said the Niger Delta was ''very important'' to Shell and stressed that the company wanted to make the area better and brighter for the people there.
Rollins announced that plans to give indigenous contractors, especially those from host communities, greater opportunity in project execution, had reached an advanced stage.
He, however, harped on the need for foreign participation in contract execution to enhance competition and promote efficiency.
The deputy managing director said his new appointment marked his second coming to Rivers as a Shell staffer and noted that the government and people of the state were hospitable.
