Provost assures good outing in
NICEGA
THE Deputy Provost of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education,
Kumbotso, Dr. Shehu Garba has said that his institution has
concluded strategies to excel not only in the preliminaries Zone
E of the Nigerian Colleges of Education Games (NICEGA) but to
make impact in the competition proper at the Federal College of
Education (Technical) (FCT), Obudu, Cross River state later in
the year.
Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday during the openning ceremony of
the preliminaries currently taking place in Kano, Dr. Garba
explained that with the performance of the institution’s
athletes so far, the school will excel in the competition.
‘’It may be recalled that the last time a NICEGA event was held
was in 1999 (LAUTAI ’90). At that time, this college was a
Campus of the then bi-campus Kano State College of Education. We
still recall with some pride our role during the LAUTAI 90.’’
‘’It is with the same degree of pride and with higher desire to
raise sports in our college to greater heights that we have
accepted to host the current edition of NICEGA
preliminaries,’’he explained.
Dr. Garba then said that ‘’the spirit of NICEGA is the spirit of
unity through sports. We must all strive to compete to that
ideal. We must not compete at the expense of our unity as
brothers and sisters from Nigeria’s colleges of education system
and remind the athletes that in the events to be competed for
there will be winners and losers, the games is not a do or die
affair.’’
The provost however, commended the state government for its
unflinching support and pledged that the institution would do
everything possible to ensure the comfort of the visiting
athletes throughout the competition.
He charged the athletes and officials to exhibit sportsmanship
throughout the championship and avoid anything capable of
disrupting the smooth conduct of the competition.
